 Marguerite Ceylon

Name: Marguerite Ceylon (currently using the name Margaret Cale, occasionally referred to by nicknames Mari and/or Maggie)

Age: Born in 1812, twenty-four when turned

Race: Vampire

Description: [image]

Personality: Mari tends to avoid confrontation, and let life run its course. For this reason, she's avoided permanently settling in any one place until very recently, since she didn't want to have to tangle with a more powerful vampire for territory. She is fascinated by the beauty in the world, and tries to mimic it in her writing. She is also fascinated by the ugliness she finds in it, and does the same. Being a romantic poet, she tends to embellish a bit in her work, though she has toned that down a bit in the modern era. She has a somewhat sly sense of humor--another reason she tends to avoid others of her kind, she's practically concerned she'll be overly sarcastic and get herself killed.

Powers: Slightly above average for a vampire of her age, particularly in terms of dazzling/spellbinding mortals. No gifts other than Mind Gift and Spell Gift.

History: Marguerite was born in Marseilles in 1812, the third of four daughters. Her father was a well-off merchant/trader. Early on, she evidenced a talent for writing, particularly poetry. In 1829, when she was seventeen, she ran away to Paris to try and make it as a writer.

For a year, she struggled, not managing to sell much, supporting herself by improvising off-color short poems in taverns. It was here she came to the attention of a man she only knew as M. le Directeur, who hired her to write a play for his theatre. This led to a six-year partnership. The conditions of this partnership were that she would write exclusively for M. le Directeur's theatre, conforming to his specifications in terms of topic, length, etc., and he would never allow her plays to be published--she felt that plays should be spoken and performed, not read and studied. During this time, she wrote three full-length plays (a trilogy, Adelaide la Belle, Adelaide L'Aimee, and Adelaide L'Eternelle), over a hundred one-acts, and several short sketches. She left Paris in 1836, at the age of twenty-four. She was consumptive, and knew she was dying, and chose to return to her native city and spend her last few weeks with her family, which she had been rather neglecting. She delivered her last play (Adelaide L'Eternelle) to M. le Directeur, and returned to Marseilles.

Two or three weeks after she arrived there, she was found by a Spanish vampire calling himself Diego, turned during the Inquisition. He had heard her work through unauthorized transcriptions put together by people who had seen them staged in Paris, and fallen in love with her words. Not wanting this talent to pass from the earth, he kidnapped her and turned her. They spent the next twenty years wandering Europe together, then separated, no longer particularly interested in each other's company. Marguerite continued wandering on her own, publishing poetry and short plays under a variety of psuedonyms.

In the late 1890s, out of the blue, Diego wrote to her, and they resumed contact. They continued exchanging letters until he went into the fire in the 1920s.

Marguerite went underground in the late 1970s, and survived Akasha's purge while in torpor. She rose in the mid-nineties, and has since been living in California, working as a screenwriter under the pseudonym Margaret Cale.

She has no fledglings.

Other: Unless the mods would prefer otherwise, M. le Directeur is intended to be Armand--after all, the novels never clarify who wrote for the Theatre after Nicki went into the fire, and one possibility is that Armand enthralled/discreetly hired mortal writers.

Speaks French, Spanish, and English all fluently.
